Thanks to Jamboree 2017 Diamond Sponsor Ancestry, the Southern California Genealogical Society and Genealogy Jamboree are able to offer 14 hours of high-quality family history education to registrants absolutely free. Handouts will be provided with each session.

Registration for the Genetic Genealogy pay-per-view and free Jamboree sessions will remain open through July 10, 2017. 


  • You do not have to be a member of SCGS, nor do you need your SCGS membership number, to view any of the streaming videos.
  • Streaming videos will not be shown on the SCGS website and are not the same as Jamboree Extension Series Webinars.
  • Genetic Genealogy/DNA Day pay-per-view live streaming is separate from Jamboree Free live streaming and is accessed via a separate web page.
  • Each registration will generate a confirmation email that will contain your username (email) and automatically generated password.
  • Passwords: If you sign up for both live streamed opportunities (pay-per-view and free), you will generate 2 separate passwords. Please keep track.

2017 Jamboree Extension Series Webinars

The Southern California Genealogical Society (SCGS) announces its Call for Presentations for the 48th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, to be held Friday through Sunday, June 8 – 11, 2017 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, Burbank, California. The 5th Annual SCGS Genetic Genealogy Conference on Thursday, June 8, 2017, will be a full day of DNA presentations.  In-Depth Workshops will occur throughout both conferences.

This Call for Presentations pertains to the Jamboree conference, the SCGS Genetic Genealogy conference and the workshops, as well as, the 2017 Jamboree Extension Series webinar program. Presentations will only be accepted through the online portal July 15, 2016 – August 21, 2016.

Submission of Presentations:

Speakers interested in presenting lecture presentations or workshops for 2017 must submit their proposals through the Jamboree Speaker Portal at:

Only those presentations submitted through the portal and accompanied by a signed copy of the Call for Presentations agreement (emailed, faxed or mailed) will be considered. The online submission process ensures that correct speaker information is used in communication, advertising and conference materials.

Jamboree draws attendees of all experience levels, from the beginner to the professional; from the first time conference attendee to conference veterans. The Jamboree Extension Series draws an international audience comprised of all skill levels. We encourage the submission of all levels of sessions.

The 2017 Jamboree theme is Hunting Your Heritage and the SCGS Genetic Genealogy conference theme is Diving Into DNA. We welcome submissions utilizing our theme to promote the expansion of our knowledge and skills.  Our heritage focus is British Isles/Ireland as well as Armenia and the Caucasus. Presentations on all topics will be considered. New presentations are encouraged. Presentations may include (but are not limited to) the following topics:

Number of Presentations: Speakers may submit up to 6 presentations. The SCGS Jamboree Committee, at its sole discretion, may select none, some, or all of the presentations submitted by any speaker.

Session Length: Jamboree and DNA presentations are 60 minutes in length, including a 10-minute question-and-answer period. You may also propose workshops from 90 minutes to 3 1/2 hours in length. Jamboree Extension Series (Webinar) presentations are 60 minutes in length with an additional 30 minutes maximum for questions.

Special consideration will be given to those Jamboree speakers who permit the live streaming or video/audio recording of their presentation and online posting of their handout material for download (as on the Jamboree app).

SCGS Jamboree 2016 Announces Saturday June 4th Banquet

Kenyatta D. Berry of PBS’ Genealogy Roadshow to Serve as Guest Presenter at Southern California Genealogy Jamboree for Saturday Evening Banquet 

The Southern California Genealogical Society is proud to announce Kenyatta D. Berry, a genealogist and host on PBS’ Genealogy Roadshow, as the guest presenter at the Saturday night banquet of the 47th Annual Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, to be held June 4th at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, in Burbank, California.

Kenyatta is a genealogist, businesswoman and lawyer with more than fifteen years’ experience in genealogical research and writing. A native of Detroit, Ms. Berry began her genealogical journey while in law school and studying at the State Library of Michigan in Lansing. She is the Past President of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and on the Council of the Corporation for the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) in Boston. A frequent lecturer and writer, her area of focus is African American and slave ancestral research.
Kenyatta will present “Kenyatta D. Berry: Secrets from PBS’ Genealogy Roadshow” offering attendees a unique look into the behind-the-scenes research that creates this successful TV production and sharing never-before-seen footage from the upcoming season of Genealogy Roadshow.
Held each June, the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree is a three-day conference for family historians and genealogists. Jamboree 2016 celebrates “Giving to the Future by Preserving the Past.” and offers an exceptional educational opportunity for all experience levels. The Jamboree banquet is a separate event and is not included in Jamboree registration. Attendees who wish to attend must purchase tickets. The public is welcome to participate and purchase individual tickets for this event.

The third season of Genealogy Roadshow premiers May 17, 2016, at 8 p.m. on PBS (check local listings) and follows a diverse cast of participants on an emotional journey, using history and science to uncover fascinating family stories. Each individual’s past links to a larger community history, revealing the rich cultural tapestry of America. This season’s programs feature participants form Los Angeles to Boston who want to explore genealogical mysteries.
